How do I buy tires by size?
Start with the tire size recommended on your vehicle placard or in the owner’s manual. Select your branch and enter that size in the TireConnect finder. The current sidewall identifies what is fitted now; it is not proof that a previous owner used an approved size.
What does 225/65R17 mean?
- 225: tire section width in millimetres.
- 65: sidewall height as a percentage of the section width.
- R: radial construction.
- 17: wheel diameter in inches.
Load and speed ratings follow the size on many tires. Confirm the requirements for your vehicle and wheel setup before choosing a model.
Can I choose a different size?
Use the vehicle manufacturer’s specified size or an approved alternative. A percentage difference in diameter alone does not establish safe fitment. Wheel width, clearance, vehicle systems and load requirements also matter. See Michelin Canada’s size and specification guidance and ask your branch before ordering a nonstandard fitment.
How do I compare the tire options?
Compare the same size, exact model, intended season and quantity. Use our tire category directory and brand directory to prepare your shortlist. Availability and the applicable quote depend on the branch selected.
What should I confirm before ordering?
Review the complete quote, including whether mounting, balancing, taxes, disposal and TPMS work are included. Confirm fitment and installation timing with your branch and follow the ordering and payment steps shown in the finder. If you need help finding possible sizes, use shop by vehicle.
FAQ
Get answers to common tire questions.
Where do I find my recommended tire size?
On the vehicle tire placard or in the owner’s manual. The current tire sidewall shows the fitted size, which may differ from an approved vehicle specification.
What do the main size numbers mean?
For 225/65R17, 225 is width in millimetres, 65 is the aspect ratio, R means radial construction and 17 is wheel diameter in inches. Confirm load and speed requirements as well.
Can I use a different size if the diameter is close?
A close diameter alone does not establish suitability. Use a manufacturer-approved fitment and have the wheel, clearance and vehicle requirements checked by your branch before ordering.
What if the sidewall and placard disagree?
Confirm which wheels and approved fitment your vehicle currently uses. Contact a branch before purchasing when there is a mismatch or a nonstandard wheel setup.
Can I search without entering a size code?
Use shop by vehicle to find possible fitments using the year, make, model and trim. Check the result against your vehicle before ordering.
